Today I guided Doug, his son, and two friends on a very eventful trip. Doug had specified that he wanted the boys to catch a few redfish. The redfish bite has been very good the last few weeks so I knew that it would be no trouble getting them on a few reds. We started the day trying to catch bait because all of the tackle stores were out this morning. After catching a few bull minnows we headed to the pass to drift some rocks that have been holding good fish. On the very first drop my clients landed a 24″ fish! We broke the ice early. We fished for another 30 minutes landing 6 to 8 perfect slot reds. After we got our limit it was time to snapper fish.

The gulf was slick calm which made for an easy ride to the Snapper spot. We hit the bait boat on the way and loaded up with live cigar minnows. Cigar Minnows in my opinion are the best snapper bait there is. After arriving at the spot it did not take long before the first fish was in the icebox. 45 minutes later we had our 4 person limit and it was time to head back.

On the way in I spotted a school of Bonita busting the serface. For those of you that do not know a Bonita is in the Tuna family and is pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish in the gulf. I quickly tied on two jigs and hooked two fish up for the boys. After 10 minutes of drag screaming fun we landed 2 10lb Bonita. We proceeded to catch 3 or 4 more then it was time to head in. It was a very short but eventful day on the water.
