I’ve had an incredible year chartering here in Pensacola, so I rewarded myself with a week long vacation to the Caribbean. I have a friend that frequents the Belize area and loves it, so last week we loaded up our fishing equipment and headed for San Pedro, or as Madonna calls it La Isla Bonita. We arrived at the island around noon on Monday Sept 5th. We were greeted with gorgeous weather and calm seas which is a rare occurrence for Ambergris Caye, Belize. We spent the afternoon exploring the island and preparing for two days of fly fishing at the famous Savannah flats. The Savannah flats are a group of Islands off the coast of Belize that anglers come from all over the world to fish. Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit are what you can expect to find on a guided trip to this area. On Tuesday morning we met up with Capt George Bradley a veteran captain on the Island who has over 30 years of guiding experience. As we arrived at our first spot we were quickly greeted by schooling bonefish and tarpon tailing in 1 foot of water. This was a pleasant change from the deep water style of fishing I’m accustom to here in Pensacola Florida. It didn’t take long before both myself and friend were both hooked up on Tarpon. It was truly and incredible experience. We spent the next two days fighting Tarpon and drinking Belikin Beer. It was definitely an experience I won’t soon forget. If you love to fish I highly recommend taking a trip to Sand Pedro and hooking up with George Bradley. You won’t be disappointed. Here are a few pics from our trip below.
