This past weekend was cold and windy, but we managed to have 3 successful trips. Saturdays weather was suppose to be horrible, but it ended up being quite nice. We made the run to Pensacola pass and did a lot of deep dropping for redfish, grouper, sheepshead, ect.. This time of year most of the fish are on a much deeper pattern. You will see that all change once the water warms up. The tide wasn’t great for the first half of the trip so we didn’t get many bites, but once it straightened out so did the fish. For a solid hour we got bit on every drop. We managed to catch some really nice black drum, redfish, and red snapper so the trip ended up a success. I had high hopes for Sunday, but the weather man was wrong again. I woke up to 25 mph east winds which is horrible for our bay system. Canceling the trip crossed my mind on several occasions, but we decided to brave the conditions. We made a long run to the east side of our bay in order to keep out of the wind. That decision ended up paying off. We hammered the redfish all morning long and even managed to catch a handful of striped bass. We arrived back at the dock around noon so that I could pick up my afternoon crew. They were already there eagerly awaiting the trip. The wind was still howling but I decided to run to Pensacola pass because I knew the tide would be right. Again I made the right decision. Despite the high winds and big waves we managed to catch fish all afternoon. I was happy to have another successful weekend in the books. I had great clients and we caught some good fish. The weekends conditions look decent so hopefully we can have some more success.
