Anglers all over the gulf coast have been waiting anxiously for the arrival of June 1st. I guess you could say that the first of June is a fisherman’s christmas morning. For two years now this date has been the opening day of red snapper season. The hard pulling, great tasting, bull dog of a fish, is one of the most targeted species in the gulf of mexico. The only problem is that the government only allows us a little over a month to keep them. That’s another story all in itself. Right now I am here to tell you just how good our red snapper fishery in Pensacola really is!
The weather has been a little dicey the first week of June so we have been forced to stay in the bay. In most places that would mean putting on the popping corks and hitting the grass flats for speckled trout and redfish, but not in Pensacola. In Pensacola we get excited when the water is rough because it gives us a chance to explore our wonderful grouper and snapper fishery we have in our bay system. When other guides are buying live shrimp at there local tackle stores, we are catching boat loads of large poggies to take to our best grouper and snapper holes. My last two trips have proved just what an outstanding bottom fishery we have in our local waters.
Below are a few pics from our last few trips. We are catching big kings, gag grouper ( which we have to release) and LOTS of quality red snapper. All of this is happening within a few miles from our boat launch. Book a trip with us today and experience bay fishing like you never have before!
