I couldn’t have asked for a better week of fishing here in Pensacola. The weather has been great and the fish are biting. July tends to be one of my favorite months of the year to charter. Every year at this time our bay gets flooded with what we call blood minnows. The blood minnows come into our bay in schools of thousands. The good part about this is the big fish are usually close behind. On a typical charter in July we will spend a good bit of time searching for bait schools. Once we find the bait schools it is usually game on! Locating the bait schools is simple. We watch for the birds! The larger fish push the bait schools to the top therefore the birds can see the schools and usually grab a free meal or two. When we spot diving birds we know we have hit the jackpot.
The type of fish we target out of these bait schools vary. You may find one school that is surrounded by Tarpon and Bull Sharks and another with lots of redfish and spanish mixed in. None the less the chance of your line getting stretched out by a monster Pensacola bay fish is pretty high. The last few trips we have been very successful in finding the feeding frenzies. On the off chance that we don’t find the bait schools there are plenty of other techniques we use to target the same fish.
We have a full week of charters ahead of us so lets hope this week goes as smoothly as the last few. If you are in the area and looking to get on a trip then please give us a call. We can pretty much accommodate any of your fishing or sightseeing needs. We are seeing lots of dolphin, sharks, and sea turtles right now so if a sight seeing trip is something you are interested in then please give us a call. You can also fill out one of our booking forms on the site and get in touch with us that way. Here are a few pics for your enjoyment! Hope to see you on the water!
